Heart Warrior: Emaline

Heart Warrior: Emaline

Meet one of our heart warriors, Emaline! I am honored to share some of her story with CHD as told by her wonderful mama, Victoria:

“We adopted Emaline from birth not knowing much of her health history. When she was born, she had a lot of fluid in her lungs making it hard for her to breathe and spent the next 14 days in the NICU. While in the NICU, we found that she had Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy, a thickened heart wall. We expected her to grow out of if at 6 months. At 4 months old, after her monthly visits to the cardiologist, her heart wasn’t improving so we did a genetic test and found a mutation of her MYBCP3 gene which causes Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy. Her heart works harder to pump to work against the thickened wall in turn making some of her blood pool. We have to keep a close eye on her wall thickening and rhythm to make sure her heart isn’t working overtime. She is currently on medication to slow her heart down and depending on how things progress could need surgery in the future. She’s our brave little warrior!”
